“this letter” being the letter from my being to the being of the white whale loosely based on a real albino sperm whale named mocha dick (really) who reportedly survived over one hundred skirmishes with whaling vessels through its life, but also being the transcreated letter of a very admiring young bram stoker to an older walt whitman, which also happened to remind me of a letter from a very admiring young herman melville to a slightly older nathaniel hawthorne, to whom the dedication is, well, dedicated
