Beasts is an attempt to translate between scientific observations and personal experience. While carrying out research in a comparative anatomy collection, I found myself embodying the movements of the species I was studying: the swipe of a lion’s paw, a deer’s delicate step. The black and white images, scientifically minded, provide morphological information that can be used to identify, classify, infer; the color images are fragments of my own body mirroring the other. The physical become metaphysical; twisting, turning, and dancing movement hides behind the still image; the human expands.
